Transitions can be positive or negative. If a person wants to, he can look at the change and be negative. Yes things will change. No, it won't be the same. And without a doubt, no one is just like anyone else. There are different personalities and different plans. But transition can be very positive as well. Transition allows for opportunity. A new opportunity to do something not necessarily better, but a different way. Sometimes the different way is what it takes to take off. Sometimes a different way reminds you of what not to do. On either front, a transition is what we are in and we are believing for God to continue to move us forward.
Beginning next Wednesday night, I'll be taking over the youth on a semi-permanent basis. Our elders will be taking turns teaching a three to four week series each Wednesday night as I'll be doing the youth service in the youth room. In the meantime, I am putting together a youth board of adults which will work in close proximity to me. These people will be the nuts and bolts of the ministry and will be involved in every aspect. They will learn our church vision and make sure the youth ministry is directly incorporated and a part of the bigger picture. The youth board will help chaperone trips, help in service, help in fundraisers, and meet monthly to plan for greater and bigger things. So far the youth board consists of Brooke Roberts and Tom & Dana Flowers. More will be added shortly.
Since the transition is in progress, I've updated the youth ministry logo (see above), created a facebook page, and a website as well (www.theoutletyouth.weebly.com). The facebook page will be the main source of communication, but the website will serve a great purpose as well. Parents and teens can download calendars, permission forms, and other documents from the website. Leadership profiles are available on the website along with important links. Once a month, we will have a live chat with anyone and everyone from 7 PM to 8 PM on the website. We have a lot of great things on the way and the calendar will be full of exciting activities and ministry. Our services will be geared directly for the teens with live praise and worship, videos, games, give-aways, and more.
The goal very simply is to watch The Outlet explode. I would love nothing more than to make the adults have to leave the sanctuary because the youth have outgrown their room. It's coming. It's not a matter of "if." It's really a matter of "when." So get ready for The Outlet 2.0. We're moving forward and we can't be stopped. Get on board and get plugged in.
