This book I finished however is anything but trash. The title grabbed me immediately especially being that holiness has been the theme of everything we've done at the church so far this year. I also saw it was a book on Leviticus, curiously enough, one of my favorite books of the Bible. I know you're thinking, "how can anyone like Leviticus?" I really don't have an answer for you. I did a paper on Leviticus in a High School english class. (Thanks Ms. Hurley!) I wrote some more things on it in college. It's one of the most quoted books in the New Testament (bet you didn't know that . . . ). Jesus quoted from the book of Leviticus practically more than any other Old Testament book. Leviticus is commonly thought of as the book of the law and Jesus claimed to have fulfilled the law. For me, I've always wanted to know exactly what "fulfilling" the book of Leviticus meant. This book "How to be Perfect" put it into perspective.
The book is actually a mini-reality series if you will with a pastor in Boston leading a group of 19 other "Levites" as they study through and try to live out to the best of their ability the book of Leviticus in a month. What they found dramatically changed their lives. While we look at the "stupid" and "weird" laws God laid down, living the laws opened this group's eyes to a hidden truth behind God's reasoning. The book was extremely challenging and it took me a little longer to read than normal.
I'm actually toying and praying about the idea of doing a similar study here at our church. One thing is probably for sure, there's a sermon series coming. What can I say? I've always liked the book of Leviticus!
