The whole issue however is bigger than homosexuality and loving a restaurant. The truth is, this supposed boycott and outrage at the Cathy family was a result of an answered question. The Cathy family wasn't running out to the newspapers and to the internet announcing their stand on marriage. Most knew they're stand as Christians and that Chick-fil-A is run on Christian values. Many probably took for granted that the Cathy family held true to traditional marriage as outlined in the Bible in both the Old and New Testaments. But the Cathy family will also hold true that telling the truth is the right way to live and upon being asked where they stood on the issue, Dan Cathy gave an honest answer. The Bill of Rights gives us the right of free speech. This right has been trumped and utilized to silence Christianity in this country as it supposedly impinges on other religions' rights to function and be recognized. Atheists have used the notion of freedom of speech to decry public prayer in schools and other functions being they don't have the right to have their voice heard. Freedom of speech has been interpreted many different ways since its inception, but what took place with Chick-fil-A was just egregious.
When the mayor of two major US towns, Chicago and Boston, feel they have the right to prevent Chick-fil-A from opening restaurants in "their" towns because the restaurant's beliefs don't line up with theirs, then we're in trouble. The flip side to that equation then is that whatever businesses do exist in those towns and who are continuing to come in must then represent the values of these two mayors. Both Boston and Chicago are heavily populated with strip clubs and porn shops. I suppose these better represent the values of the two mayors. Both cities are known for organized crime. I suppose these better represent the values of the two mayors. The irony of it all is that these mayors have no issue with these types of businesses and organizations coming into their city, but they have issue with a chicken joint who believes marriage should be between a man and a woman . . . . It's sheer stupidity if I've ever seen it.
The two mayors and their supporters across the nation site bigotry and intolerance as the foundation of their argument with Chick-fil-A and subsequently all who hold the position of traditional marriage. Somehow these individuals have been enlightened to something that no civilization in history has completely 100% accepted as law. I find it amusing and downright pathetic at the same time to hear the cries of intolerance against those who support Chick-fil-A coming from individuals who themselves are entirely intolerant of a fast food chain's ability to answer a question truthfully about what it believes. That's the very definition of intolerance. Tolerance calls for all people to respect the right of any individual to believe whatever he or she believes to be true.
Let me be clear. Referring to individuals who believe in traditional marriage as the Bible outlines, as Jesus commissioned, and as nature itself dictates as bigots, homophobes, or intolerant is only a great sign of ignorance and inability or at least lack of a desire to understand history and nature. I am 100% against gay marriage, but I'm not against the gay person at all. Homosexuals are more than welcome in my church and should be welcome in all churches. However, it is also important that we preach what the Bible says about homosexuality and that it is a sin and should not be accepted as an "alternative" lifestyle and we must preach so in love and with truth.
And while we're on the preaching against homosexuality, the church would be wise to preach against our own sexual sins. We should not be surprised that there is a fight for the definition of marriage because throughout modern history, the church has made a mockery of it. The divorce rate in the church has long been equal to, if not higher than, the world. When the church doesn't understand marriage (as the stats seem to prove), the world is less likely to accept the definition of marriage from the church. Let's go further. According to God's Word, do we understand that a homosexual act is no different than an illicit affair, adultery, or fornication between two teens parked in the woods? God lumps all these together in what he categorizes as sexual sin or fornication. We should deplore the actual homosexual lifestyle, but we should also deplore the heterosexual lifestyle that allows for multiple partners, enraged lust, groping, overt fantasizing, and pornography which is nothing less than the degrading of women on a large scale and ultimately the degradation of humanity overall. We as a church can't choose to major on the minor and minor on the major. May we not find ourselves exploding with scripture against homosexuality while embodying the marks of fornication and sexual sin in our own heterosexual life. We lose all credibility unfortunately.
What is very apparent from yesterday's movement and the constant showings around the country is that America isn't nearly as liberal as the media would like us to think. In fact, every state which has been allowed to vote on the legalization of homosexual marriage has voted it down overwhelmingly. The only states where it is legal are those states in which the governor and or legislature signed it into law without polling the citizens of the state. Yet, CNN and other liberal media outlets would have viewers to believe that the nation is for this issue. Stars and celebrities, and yes even our president, has come out in support of it because they know that some people will jump on the bandwagon not out of conviction, but simply due to the name attached. The constant coverage of liberal views and actions is only meant to deter freedom of expression and the conservative and moderate lifestyles. Not surprisingly, many of the news outlets that covered the boycott of Chick-fil-A and the actions of the two disingenuous mayors were silent as America spoke yesterday. Even today, the coverage is minimal. Why is it that Christianity is constantly attacked and deplored while other religions get a free pass? Very simply because Christianity is viewed as the great intolerant evil which is restraining society from moving into complete hedonism and selfish living.
May we as Christians never dim our lights and may we continue to support one another, our churches, and other Christian businesses like Chick-fil-A as we stand together for what's right. There is power in numbers. The world isn't impressed with whether your name is on a membership role. You won't enact any significant change for Christ sitting on your couch and never doing anything for Christ. The Apostle Paul is clear that we are not saved by works, but the Apostle James is equally as clear that our faith without works is dead. Works then are the proof that we are who we say we are to the world. What are your works saying? Actions speak louder than words. Claims of Christianity among actions of disobedience to God provide a mixed drink of salt and fresh water which the Apostle James also states should not happen. Let us be challenged to stand for Christ, His Word, and His ways. May we support one another and our local churches. May we continue to support Christian businesses. May we be good citizens of the greatest nation on earth and may we love one another. May we deal with our own sin while we stand against the onslaught of more sin. And may we ultimately be led by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God above all else and before anyone else.
Support the Bible. Support the Church. Support Christian businesses. Support Chick-fil-A . . . . EVERYDAY!
