The book details the judgment upon Israel in Isaiah 9:10 and how after Israel was attacked by a reign of terror from the Assyrian armies due to her own disobedience to God and His Word, Israel responded with defiance and unrepentant hearts. According to the verse, in the wake of what had happened, Israel proclaimed that they would build new buildings with stone instead of brick and replace the sycamore trees with cedars and that they would rebuild and come back stronger than before. And while rebuilding and returning stronger isn't necessarily a bad thing, refusing to recognize the real reason calamity came is a travesty. God responds to their arrogance and defiance by decimating them in a just a few short years by the same army and the kingdom of Israel is never heard of again. Ironically, as America was attacked on 9/11, our leaders and nation as a whole developed a great resolve. A resolve was very much needed, but defiance was very much not needed. Indeed, it is the opinion of many spiritual leaders that 9/11 was a judgment upon America for it's evil ways and forgetting God. If indeed it was, then it's troubling to note, that three of our nations leaders used so form of Isaiah 9:10, if not in its exact wording, to describe how America would respond to terror. There's so much more I could say about this book, but having read it especially after our service at our church yesterday gave me goose bumps the whole time I was reading it. One thing is for sure, we must wake up to realize that we are in a spiritual battle and the band-aids of politicians and other leaders will not cure the issue. America must return to God and repent. We have the promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14 to let us know how He will respond to a broken and contrite heart. May America wake up and may the church arise in the last hours and fight against the current of culture. Outstanding book!
