The Boy Scouts of America have been constantly sued by LGBT supporting groups for inclusion. The BSA creed states that it stands for morally straight living and living under the auspices of God. In considering these issues, homosexuality was prohibited as the Bible clearly states it is a sin. Unfortunately, the new norm in our country is to use the justice system to beat someone into submission. Regardless of how many favored verdicts an organization can receive in civil court, it can continue to be tried and tried and tried again costing an organization thousands and thousands of dollars to be told each time that they are right. It's a legal loophole that needs to be closed. I have no doubts that this recent change is simply a result of the higher ups of the BSA getting tired of being sued and having to dish out money. If you can't beat someone in a straight up fight or argument, you can keep paper cutting them until they painfully bleed out.
With the change which now allows for openly gay boys to enter the Boy Scouts, a slippery slope has been created. Ultimately LGBT supporters wanted gay adult leaders to be included, but that was denied . . . for now. If history has taught us anything, it's that one door leads to another and what one generation allows in moderation, the next will allow in excess. The issue becomes then about an organization who chooses to view an issue on religious and moral grounds suddenly being bludgeoned for doing so. Something which isn't common knowledge about the BSA is that its actual leadership structure is to allow the boys to lead the troops in what is called a patrol leader. Indeed, the scoutmasters and committees are only there for structure, planning, and assisting the boys in their planning and trips. In essence, by changing their stance, the BSA has now infused homosexuality into their creed and leadership. Now scouts will have to do their pledge about living morally right lives while accepting that the homosexual lifestyle is such. Now scouts will have to declare they are doing their duty to God while accepting that homosexuality is normal and alright. Now older scouts who may be gay will be leading younger scouts in the midst of the beginning of adolescence. Let's be clear; the BSA never kept gay boys from joining the scouts. They simply asked that it not be publicized or made an issue. The fact that the policy has now been changed and has been pushed to be changed by the LGBT shows that this isn't about equality as much as its about acceptance of something which is wrong.
There are some in the church that want to ride the newfound Rob Bell, love wins, air and claim that there's nothing wrong here. Let's be clear, the church has a responsibility to love, accept, and minister to everyone . . . EVERYONE! This includes homosexuals, single mothers, drunkards, pregnant girls out of wedlock, and on and on. The church is a ministry and the hands and feet of Christ. Shame on a church if it rejects certain sinners from coming into its doors. But the BSA isn't a ministry. It's an organization and a long standing one at that. One that has given us several US presidents and many more prominent individuals in history. As America continues it's crusade to make everything "fair" and everyone "equal," we find ourselves losing the battle of American truism. The pioneering spirit of America was to create. No one is stopping any gay individual from starting their own scouting program. Instead, we are being forced to either willfully or painfully accept a lifestyle which God called an abomination in the Old Testament and sinful and unnatural in the New Testament. It's not enough for individuals to use their American freedom to create their own entities and organizations. In the name of freedom, Americans are being forced to accept things without care or concern for their own freedom to believe. In a country that now seems to protect "freedom from religion" instead of "freedom of religion," we should hardly be surprised.
There were over 25,000 signatures and letters that came into the BSA just before the vote last Thursday and they were all ignored. The policy has changed and Free Point Church will no longer be the charter organization for Troop 96 and Pack 419. It's a sad day, but I received an email this morning from a scout which put it in words much more poignant than I could say.
It's a sad day for both Scouting and for freedom. Indeed, it's a sad day for America. The century-old Boy Scouts of America (BSA) - created in 1910 to "prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes" - has betrayed its own constituency, mission, oath and law.
Last Thursday, approximately 1,400 adult BSA delegates from around the country gathered in Texas and decided, in a disgracefully lopsided vote, to welcome into its ranks, "open and avowed" homosexuality (boy-on-boy sexual attraction and behavior), thereby disavowing the "morally straight" Scout Oath its members are sworn to uphold.
They voted unwisely.
History will reflect that on this day the BSA turned from morally straight to immorally bent - that this once great organization - founded on "honor," "reverence" and biblical morality - was crushed beneath the worldly weight of pagan idolatry.
Whereas, for over a century, millions of boys have raised their right hands, swearing "on my honor" to "do my duty to God and my country" - on this day, hundreds of adult delegates likewise raised their right hands, shook their fists at God and flipped their middle fingers at both the boys they serve and the parents who trusted them.
While endeavoring to "gain the world," this once honorable institution has forfeited its soul.
This will prevent Free Point Church from supporting us. You can fight this by sending an E-Mail or phone call Garrett L. Williams at: firstname.lastname@example.org or 478-743-9386 or 1-800-272-9386
You can also contact the council that we were going to go to Summer camp with.
The Scout Executive is Chuck Brasfeild, and you can contact him at email@example.com
You might also demand refunds to the National Jamboree, Sea Base, and even Summer Camp.
I will not attend Summer Camp unless the Ban is re- established. I myself will not pursue any rank advancement in scouting. I am placing my interests in other activities.
