I'm a big Max Lucado fan. I have most of his books and have read most of them as well. He has a gift for sure. His book on John 3:16 was easily one of the best he has written. It is one of the most recognizable verses in the Bible and yet its power is so often understated. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life." That's the Gospel in a nutshell. Most Christians have this verse committed to memory, but have we forgotten its power?
Lucado sets out on a quest to rediscover the verse by delving into John 3 and Jesus' relationship and discussion with Nicodemus. Along the way, Lucado throws his own stories as he so easily does in to highlight portions of the verse he feels are full of impact. For me, the book opened me up to another dimension of the verse. As I read the book, my mind begin to move through the Bible and begin connecting some of my favorite stories to the verse. It led me to write a sermon series that I'm currently preaching through at our church and suffice it to say that Jesus is reconfirming the verse to those who are reaching out for Him.
If you're looking to rediscover the verse fresh and new or you want a good book to read from Max Lucado, you won't go wrong getting this book. It's
